ADSL is short for Asymmetric Digital
Subscriber Line, which in short means that it is an
always-on connection as calls are free so the system can
be left on all the time at no extra charge. This allows fast access to the Internet over the already existing copper telephone wires. ADSL is extremely fast as it allows data to be received at between 512 KBps and 2 MBps when receiving data and it also allows the user to send between 16 and 640 Kbps. ADSL is has many advantages if the user needs to receive data very quickly, if he downloads lots of files and also if he uses the Internet for on-line gaming. This means it has many advantages. A major disadvantage is that ADSL is only supported in certain areas of a country so if you do not live in one of these locations then it means that you cannot have access to its system. This is becoming less of a problem as ADSL is becoming increasingly popular and is now becoming much more available as it is supported in more areas. BT have estimated that within 3 years 90% of the UK will be covered by ADSL so as of yet it might not be available in your area and will have to be checked. You can check if you can receive ADSL by clicking on the link below on the navigation bar!!! In order to access ADSL a special modem must be bought for it and a monthly or annual subscription has to be paid. |
